Protect and improve the mental health of outdoor activities.
A recent study published in the American Chemical Society's Environmental Science & Technology expressed simply by taking 5 minutes to 'green exercise', able to provide benefits to our mental health.
Jules Pretty and Jo Barton of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Environment and Society and Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Essex in Colchester, England, describes green exercise is physical activities that we do outdoors, like walking in the park, working in the garden or hiking outdoors.
In a previous study demonstrated outside activities can reduce the risk of mental illness and improve self-esteem. But the research has not provided certainty how much time should we spend in the outdoors to get the benefit.
Pretty and Barton study conducted on 1252 people with differences in age, gender, and health status metal. Plus the participants were asked to perform activities such as walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, and gardening in the open. And the result, although all participants benefit different. But most health changes experienced by young volunteers who have mental problems. It would be nice if everyone could do a 'cure' themselves with green exercise, suggestions Barton. All been reported to affect the natural environment, but the environment green with water can provide more benefits.
From the overall results, a positive impact on increasing self-esteem happens when we do green exercise for 5 minutes. "Short-term mental health improvements are protective of our health can be long-term," said Pretty.
So start to be able to take 5 minutes just to move out every day, to protect our health. Now onwards. (Astrid Anastasia)
